Here in Hamilton, there’s nothing quite like Hamilton Bengals Junior B Lacrosse. It’s 60 minutes of incredible athleticism, torrid pace and ferocious aggressiveness. Every game is a battle unlike almost any in sports. For the fans, it’s endless intensity – on the floor and in the seats. Whether we’re in a mid-season matchup against a storied-Lacrosse town like Owen Sound and Elora, or in a hard-fought playoff battle against a regional powerhouse like Six Nations or St. Catharines, there’s never a shortage of energy and emotion.
Bengals home games are played at the Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena – centrally located on the Hamilton mountain just off of Upper James on Hester Street. This classic arena, built in 1966, has a deep history in Hamilton as a Hockey and Lacrosse venue. Its steep seating and classic bowl layout puts fans right on top of the action – providing great views of the game and an exciting atmosphere.
Junior Lacrosse has a long and varied history in Hamilton. There have been a few incarnations in Junior C, Junior B, and Junior A lacrosse in Hamilton, under both private ownership as well as the Hamilton Lacrosse Association.
The H.L.A. acquired the current Junior B Club in 2015 from private ownership after 4 successful years operating a Junior C team. The Junior C team subsequently was transferred to Brantford and the 2 teams share a close relationship as affiliated clubs. The Bengals have also been affiliated with the Burlington Junior A franchise giving a strong group of teams to offer our local young athletes to play the sport at all levels.
On the floor in the 3 years the club has been under H.L.A. auspices the team has made strides moving forward. After gaining some respect within the OJBLL in 2015 the team pushed hard for a playoff spot in 2016 and fell just short. 2017 saw the team finish 5th in the western conference and defeat Elora in a hard fought 5 game series. The Bengals subsequently lost in the 2nd round to the 19-1 Six Nations squad. The playoffs provided some great, hard fought clean lacrosse.
This foundation bodes well for the future with strong Junior C, Intermediate, Midget and Bantam teams keeping the flow of talent moving up to the Junior B club.
Off the floor we have strong leadership and support from the Hamilton Lacrosse Association. We are striving to get the word out in to the community about the great entertainment value of our sport.
The team is always looking to grow in a number of areas. We are looking to grow our game day volunteers to allow us to add more to the game day experience, we have some team positions open as well. We are also looking for local sponsorship and offer a variety of ways to support the team, both financially as well as donations in kind. If you are able to assist in any capacity please email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
